Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of circuit games based on fundamental movement activities on the motivation levels of students at Singawada Elementary School. In the context of physical education, student motivation is a crucial factor influencing active participation and learning outcomes. However, conventional teaching approaches often fail to create engaging and enjoyable learning environments, resulting in low student motivation. Therefore, innovative strategies such as game-based learning are needed to enhance students’ interest and involvement. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest control group approach. The participants were 72 students, divided equally into an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 36 students. The experimental group received treatment in the form of circuit games based on fundamental movement skills, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests. The results of the paired sample t-test indicated a significant increase in motivation in the experimental group (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, the independent sample t-test revealed a greater improvement in the experimental group (mean difference = -17.583) compared to the control group (mean difference = -10.333), with a t-value of 39.020, confirming a statistically significant difference between the two groups. In conclusion, circuit games based on basic movement activities are effective in enhancing students’ motivation in physical education. This approach not only improves engagement but also provides a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience, making it a valuable alternative strategy for elementary school physical education.
