Abstract

This study aims to analyze the literature on outdoor education in modern physical education using a PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses)-based Systematic Literature Review approach. The article search was conducted through national and international databases, including Google Scholar, Garuda, ERIC, ScienceDirect, and PubMed, covering publications from 2015 to 2025. The article selection process involved the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and final inclusion based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The selection yielded articles that were subsequently analyzed using thematic synthesis. The results of the study indicate that outdoor education makes a positive contribution to student development, particularly in the areas of physical fitness, physical activity, learning motivation, social skills, mental health, and character development. Outdoor learning activities are also capable of increasing student engagement through more active, contextual, and enjoyable learning experiences. Furthermore, outdoor education has strong relevance to modern physical education as it supports student-centered learning, experiential learning, and the development of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. The implementation of outdoor education in modern physical education is considered capable of creating more innovative and holistic learning, although it still faces challenges regarding facilities, safety, and teacher competence. Thus, outdoor education holds great potential to be developed as a strategic approach to improving the quality of modern physical education.
