Abstract

Volleyball performance in competitive tournaments requires a balance between offensive productivity and defensive stability to achieve optimal results. However, technical imbalances in fundamental playing skills often influence team outcomes, particularly in student-level competitions. This study aimed to analyze the performance of the Central Java women’s volleyball team during the Pekan Olahraga Pelajar Nasional as an evaluation of technical gameplay effectiveness based on fundamental volleyball skills, including service, receive/dig, block, set, and spike. This study employed a quantitative descriptive research design using direct and indirect observation methods. Data were collected through structured match statistics sheets and video analysis accessed from the YouTube platform, with the researcher acting as a non-participant observer. The research subjects consisted of all technical playing actions performed by the Central Java women’s volleyball team during matches held at the Bulungan Sports Hall. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and effectiveness calculations for each technical component. The results revealed an imbalance between offensive and defensive performance. Service effectiveness reached 25.35%, block 27.45%, and receive/dig 12.64%, all categorized as low and indicating weaknesses in tactical pressure, net defense, and first-ball control. In contrast, set effectiveness reached 57.89% and spike 59.47%, both categorized as relatively good and serving as the team’s primary sources of scoring. These findings indicate that the team’s playing pattern relied heavily on offensive attack, while defensive support remained weak. In conclusion, the Central Java women’s volleyball team demonstrated strong attacking potential but insufficient technical balance. Therefore, improvements in service consistency, block coordination, and receive/dig techniques are necessary to develop a more balanced playing structure and enhance performance in future competitions.
