Abstrak

Motor skill development is a fundamental component of children’s physical growth and long-term participation in physical activity, particularly during the elementary school years. However, traditional physical education practices often fail to optimally support motor competence due to their reliance on repetitive and teacher-centered approaches. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of game-based physical education learning in enhancing elementary students’ motor skills at SDN 2 Lohgung. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. A total of 40 students (20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group) participated in the study. The experimental group received an 8-week game-based physical education intervention, while the control group followed conventional teaching methods. Motor skill performance was assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2, which evaluates locomotor and object control skills. The results revealed significant improvements in the experimental group compared to the control group. Locomotor skills showed a statistically significant increase (t = 4.32, p < .001, d = 0.87), while object control skills also improved significantly (t = 3.89, p < .001, d = 0.78). These findings indicate that game-based physical education learning produces meaningful and practical enhancements in students’ motor competence. In conclusion, game-based learning represents an effective and engaging pedagogical approach for improving elementary students’ motor skills. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on innovative physical education strategies and provides practical implications for teachers to adopt culturally relevant, game-based methods in school settings.
