Badminton performance, particularly in executing an effective smash, is strongly influenced by physical components such as leg muscle explosive power and arm muscle strength. However, variations in athletes’ physical conditions often lead to inconsistent smash performance. This study aimed to determine the relationship between leg muscle explosive power and arm muscle strength with the smashing ability of athletes at the Kiber Club in Sambas Regency. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. The sample consisted of 25 athletes, selected using purposive sampling based on specific criteria. Data collection techniques included observation, literature review, and physical performance tests. Leg muscle explosive power was measured using the vertical jump test, arm muscle strength using the push-up test, and smash ability using a standardized smash test. Data analysis involved prerequisite tests, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple correlation analysis. The results indicated a significant relationship between leg muscle explosive power and smash ability, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.473 ≥ 0.3961. Furthermore, arm muscle strength showed a stronger significant relationship with smash ability, with r = 0.627 ≥ 0.3961. Simultaneously, the multiple correlation analysis revealed a coefficient of R = 0.657, indicating a high and significant relationship between both independent variables and smashing ability. In conclusion, both leg muscle explosive power and arm muscle strength significantly contribute to badminton smash performance. Improving these physical components is essential to optimize athletes’ performance, particularly in enhancing the effectiveness and accuracy of smashes.
