Abstract

Pencak silat, as a traditional martial art integrated into physical education, requires mastery of complex and structured movement sequences, particularly in the single category. However, many students experience difficulties in performing these movements accurately and systematically. This study aimed to determine the effect of using learning videos on the movement skills of single-category pencak silat among Physical Education students in the Class of 2024. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 25 students (20 males and 5 females) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a standard single movement assessment form, and the intervention was conducted over 12 training sessions. Data analysis included prerequisite tests, namely the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and F-test for homogeneity, followed by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test due to non-normal data distribution. The results indicated that the data were not normally distributed but homogeneous. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of -4.378 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. The average score increased substantially, with a standard deviation of 21.88, and the calculated effect size (r = 0.876) was categorized as very strong. In conclusion, the use of learning videos has a significant and strong effect on improving the movement skills of single-category pencak silat. Learning videos can serve as an effective and innovative instructional medium in physical education.
