Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of perimeter shooting skills in basketball and the potential influence of psychological factors, particularly introverted and extroverted personality types, on the effectiveness of sports training. Perimeter shooting is one of the essential technical skills in basketball because it contributes significantly to scoring opportunities and game performance. Therefore, understanding the relationship between personality characteristics and skill improvement is important for developing effective physical education learning strategies. This study aimed to analyze the improvement of basketball perimeter shooting skills and to compare the training outcomes between introverted and extroverted students. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest group design. The sample consisted of 22 students from SMPN 1 Bangkalan selected through purposive sampling. Participants were classified into introverted and extroverted groups based on personality questionnaire results. Data were collected through perimeter shooting skill tests, personality questionnaires, observation, and documentation. Statistical analysis included normality tests, Wilcoxon tests, and Mann–Whitney tests. The results showed that the extrovert group experienced a significant improvement in perimeter shooting skills after the training intervention (p = 0.024 < 0.05), while the introvert group did not show statistically significant improvement (p = 0.176 > 0.05). However, the Mann–Whitney test indicated no significant difference between the two groups in terms of shooting skill improvement (p = 0.725 > 0.05). In conclusion, structured feedback-based training effectively improved basketball perimeter shooting skills, and personality type did not significantly determine the level of skill improvement. These findings highlight the importance of adaptive and individualized training programs in physical education learning.
