Abstrak

Physical education plays an important role in improving students’ physical fitness and motor performance, particularly in sports activities such as volleyball that require explosive lower-limb power. However, many junior high school students still experience difficulties in performing optimal jumping movements during volleyball activities due to limited leg muscle power. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effect of squat jump exercises on improving the leg muscle power of Grade VII students in volleyball games at SMP Negeri 1 Baras. This study employed a quantitative experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population consisted of all Grade VII students participating in volleyball extracurricular activities, while the sample included 15 students selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used to measure leg muscle power was the Vertical Jump Test. The research procedure began with a pretest, followed by the implementation of a squat jump training program conducted for six weeks with three training sessions per week, and concluded with a posttest. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the paired sample t-test with a significance level of 95%. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and that students experienced significant improvement after the treatment. The average pretest score was 33.07, while the average posttest score increased to 36.87, indicating an improvement of 3.80 points or 11.49%. The paired sample t-test analysis revealed a t-count value of 9.668, which was greater than the t-table value of 1.753. Therefore, it can be concluded that squat jump exercises had a significant effect on improving the leg muscle power of Grade VII students in volleyball games at SMP Negeri 1 Baras.
