The Pedagogical Competence of Physical Education Teachers in Implementing Learning in Elementary Schools in Sukorejo District

Pedagogical competence is a fundamental component in determining the quality of learning, particularly in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK), which emphasizes cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development through active learning experiences. However, the effectiveness of PJOK learning in elementary schools is strongly influenced by teachers’ ability to plan, implement, and evaluate instruction effectively. This study aimed to analyze the pedagogical competence of PJOK teachers in implementing learning in elementary schools throughout Sukorejo District, Kendal Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of all PJOK teachers in elementary schools across Sukorejo District, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and observations based on pedagogical competence indicators covering lesson planning, learning implementation, and evaluation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The findings revealed that the pedagogical competence of PJOK teachers was generally in the good category, indicated by the average score of 17.97 for the planning aspect, 17.90 for the implementation aspect, and 17.72 for the evaluation aspect. Observation results also showed that the learning process was implemented well, particularly in lesson preparation and instructional management. However, several aspects still require improvement, especially in increasing active student engagement and optimizing evaluation practices through feedback and reflective activities. These findings suggest that although PJOK teachers have demonstrated adequate pedagogical competence, continuous improvement is necessary to support more interactive instruction and enhance the overall quality of learning. In conclusion, the pedagogical competence of PJOK teachers in Sukorejo District can be categorized as good, but strengthening specific pedagogical dimensions remains essential for achieving optimal educational outcomes.
