Sepak takraw is a sport that continues to develop rapidly in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. In this sport, the ability to receive a serve (receive ball) is a fundamental technique that plays an important role in controlling the game and organizing attacking patterns. However, many junior high school students still experience difficulties in mastering receive ball techniques due to limited technical practice and the lack of structured training methods. Therefore, effective and systematic training strategies are needed to improve students’ technical skills in sepak takraw learning. This study aimed to determine the effect of drill training methods and wall passing exercises on students’ receive ball skills in sepak takraw games. This study employed a quantitative approach using a two-group pretest–posttest experimental design. The sample consisted of 22 junior high school students who participated in sepak takraw learning activities and were divided equally into two treatment groups. Data were collected using a receive ball skill test administered before and after the training program. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests. The results showed that both training methods significantly improved students’ receive ball skills. The drill training method increased the average score from 30 to 42 (mean difference = 12.00; t = 13.27), while the wall passing method improved the average score from 30 to 38 (mean difference = 8.27; t = 9.15). Furthermore, the independent sample t-test indicated a significant difference between the two methods (t = 3.41), showing that the drill method was more effective than the wall passing method. In conclusion, structured and repetitive training methods effectively improve students’ basic technical skills in sepak takraw, particularly in receiving serves.
