Abstrak

Football performance is not only determined by technical and physical abilities but is also strongly influenced by psychological factors, particularly in critical situations such as penalty kicks. In youth football, the ability to maintain concentration and confidence is considered essential for successful performance execution. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the contribution of concentration and confidence to penalty kick success among U-13 players of SSB Balasuga Semarang. This study employed a quantitative correlational design involving a total sample of 30 players selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a five-point Likert scale questionnaire to measure concentration and confidence, supported by direct observation and documentation of penalty kick performance. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation tests. The results indicated that the levels of concentration (mean = 80.73) and confidence (mean = 83.83) were categorized as high, while penalty kick performance (mean = 3.13) was classified as moderate. A strong and significant relationship was found between concentration and confidence (r = 0.820; p < 0.01). However, concentration did not show a significant relationship with penalty kick success (r = -0.126; p > 0.05), and confidence also did not have a significant effect (r = -0.263; p > 0.05). In conclusion, although concentration and confidence are important psychological attributes, they are not sufficient to directly determine penalty kick success. These findings highlight the importance of integrating psychological training with technical practice and game-based scenarios to enhance performance in youth football players.
