Motor skill development is a fundamental objective of physical education at the elementary school level, as it supports children’s physical, cognitive, and social growth. However, many students still demonstrate suboptimal motor competence, indicating the need for structured and effective training interventions. This study aimed to determine the effect of a basic athletic training program on improving the motor skills of fifth-grade students at UPT SDN Pliwetan. This study employed an experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 27 students selected through total sampling. Motor skills were measured using the Motor Ability Test for Elementary School, which included a 30-meter sprint test (speed), shuttle run 4×10 meters (agility), ball throw and catch against a wall (coordination), and Stork Stand Positional Balance test (balance). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ motor skills after participating in the 8-week training program conducted three times per week. The mean motor ability score increased from 215.45 (fair category) at pretest to 248.32 (good category) at posttest, with a significance value of p < 0.05. In conclusion, the basic athletic training program is effective in enhancing motor skills among elementary school students. These findings suggest that integrating structured and play-based athletic training into physical education curricula can optimize students’ motor development and support active participation in physical activities.
