Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem and a form of chronic malnutrition that negatively affects children's physical growth, cognitive development, and future productivity. One of the strategies implemented to address stunting is the Local Supplementary Feeding Program (PMT Lokal), which utilizes locally available food resources to improve the nutritional intake of children. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a local supplementary feeding program in improving the nutritional status of stunted toddlers in the working area of Samaenre Public Health Center. This study employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pre-test–post-test design. The sample consisted of 85 stunted toddlers aged 6–59 months selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected from anthropometric measurements recorded before and after a 90-day local supplementary feeding intervention. Nutritional status was assessed using body weight, body height, and Height-for-Age Z-score (HAZ/TB/U). Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Tests with a significance level of 5% (p < 0.05). The results showed significant improvements in all nutritional indicators following the intervention. The mean body weight increased from 10.46 kg to 11.39 kg, while the mean body height increased from 81.18 cm to 84.93 cm. Furthermore, the average Height-for-Age Z-score improved from −3.50 to −2.36. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences between pre- and post-intervention measurements, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the local supplementary feeding program was effective in improving the nutritional status of stunted toddlers, particularly in enhancing linear growth as measured by the Height-for-Age indicator. These findings support the utilization of local food-based interventions as a sustainable strategy for stunting reduction.
